Summer Workshop - Meditate and Sing: Concentration, Compassion, and Calm

Presence is at the heart of both meditation and expressive vocal artistry.

Meditation offers us the opportunity to observe the patterns of our thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations. The simple act of self-observation leads to a greater space between what we experience and what we choose to do. The cultivation of concentration, mental and emotional spaciousness, and compassion enhance every aspect of singing coordination and authentic artistry.

This 90-minute workshop will explore:

  • The basics of meditation and how to tailor it to your unique mind, body, and voice .

  • Meditation practices adapted for singers to cultivate awareness of breath, sound, physical sensation combined with periods of singing to apply your new awareness.

  • Brahma Vihara (“Sublime Attitudes”) practices for singers: Kindness, Compassion, Sympathetic Joy and Equanimity.

  • The balance between desiring an outcome and accepting what’s present in both meditation and singing.

  • Practical ways to develop a consistent and satisfying ongoing meditation practice and how to couple it with your vocal exploration.

All minds, bodies, and voices are welcome and celebrated! No experience necessary and all practices can be adapted for your comfort.

This workshop will be held on Zoom. The Zoom link and a recording will be emailed to all registered participants.
